BLOGGERS, WORTH THINKING ABOUT...

More and more people are viewing blogs, the net and social media via Smartphones and tablets. A lot of my viewing cones via a Smartphone especially when at work.
Something was pointed out to me by a friend, he showed me my blog more specifically the images on his phone. BLOGGER does two templates the first is "desktop" view which is the template/layout you designed etc and is the version you get when viewing on a pc/laptop and then a mobile phone view, which is a condensed version. The images on the mobile phone version are terrible and not a true reflection they are horrible they're small and pixelated . I  think you can personalise the mobile phone 'view' or you can do the following and simplest  FIRSTLY GO TO THE 'TEMPLATE' SECTION here you'll see your current templates for both views, you can see from the screen shot below how different the two views are, if you click on the 'gear cog' underneath the mobile version
You get this pop up. Click 'no' then when anyone using their mobile phone to view your blog not only do they get the full blog layout but the images will be displayed how you want them be seen. Have a look at your blog on a phone and see how bad the images are in mobile version.

  1. Cheers for that Doug.

I think this nonsense about catering for mobile and tablet is all wrong; but sadly that's the future I guess.
I can't understand why people would want to view pictures and movies on a pokey little screen anyway.

    1. Well I agree of sorts Keith, but we're urbanites a friend who lives in a tiny hamlet has really rubbish broadband yet gets a full 4G signal which means all his Internet browsing is done on a phone. He can also connect the phone to his TV so gets a big screen to view. Personally I'd prefer my computer but if I'm on a break at work I have two options read whatever tosh newspaper is available or browse on my phone this phone for example even though the screen is small compared to my laptop it actually has more pixels, as you say sadly it's the way forward :-(

    1. That's ok it's worth doing if you look at your stats etc you'd be surprised how many visitors you get from phone providers.

  3. Thanks Douglas,
I never even think of anyone using a phone. I use mine for texting. I'll check my whatsit now. I don't want folk thinking I'm totally useless.

  4. PS. had a look at the preview and mine didn't look too bad. I did think of getting a posh phone but when I tried to do the funny business with my fingers it all went silly so I decided they weren't for me.

    1. I get that with my chubby fingers at times too Adrian lol. I read somewhere that over 60% of Internet traffic is from mobile devices, they're brilliant in poor broadband areas etc.

    1. Just left a message on your blog. Your blog looks the same now on mobile and laptop.
For anyone else worried about 'disabled' showing it just means mobile phone template is disabled. As you've enabled desktop (laptop/pc) view

  7. Thanks for the heads-up on this one, Doug. I've got the mobile template switched on in blogger. Just checked my blog on my phone and I reckon it looks OK. I'd be interested to know what it looks like on yours. If it looks rough, it indicates to me that the results might be phone-dependent. If it looks OK, perhaps it's base template dependent, or even how photos are uploaded. My images are always resized to fit the template exactly at 'full size' so Blogger doesn't feel the need to mess with them at all.

    Best wishes - - - - Richard

    1. I always when using the phone use desktop display. I switched to mobile view to check on various sites with various results. It looks like it depends and the template and/or how the person uploads the images. On yours for example the images look perfect with no degregation in quality but what is missing on the mobile template on all sites are the various links, blog pages/recent posts and the various widgets like "blogs following" etc and other various items.

  8. After you mentioned this abnormality Doug I too checked things out on my I phone 4S and as with Richard I do not seem to have any ill effects, apart from I am not able to view other links web pages etc. But don't ask me about the setting/templates I use, my 14 year old son set them all up for me!!!
